So i thought id update on the bands. Seeing as theyre the most important thing in my life right now.
sterling is doing pretty well. In the past they have been slaughtered by most other bands. Last night we were only band in group 1 championship div. Last week we scored 77.55-we jumped to 82.57. FREAKIN AWESOME. Not only that but we are currently ranked in the top ten in group 1 over triton and highland (local schools that have kicked sterlings ass for the past 6 years.) THAT IS FREAKIN HUGE
the best part? (yes it ACTUALLY gets BETTER) they were soooo disappointed. I know that sounds bad but its a GOOD thing. It means that they hold themselves to a very high standard. It means that (hopefully) theyll begin to put 110 into rehearsals. (finally...)
im having A LOT of trouble with my flutes. One of them is a HUGE bitch. Victoria-tiny little witch. LOVES to back-talk and give attitude. On thursday night rob said apos;okay go from set 11 to 13.apos; and of course the stupid flutes kept going. When rob started yelling victoria started pointing at angela (who cannot march. Or play. Basically dead weight who brings down our IA Vis/IA Music scores. But shes still a quiet little sweetheart who really does try pretty hard.) i immediately said apos;do NOT point at her when you went on too.apos; so she started her routine: muttering under her breath; cursing; rolling her eyes; flipping her hands up. So koof (brass tech from UArts) says apos;victoria dont talk back.apos; and she keeps going even though rachel (my godsend pic player. LOL) says apos;victoria shut up. You DEFINITELY kept going.apos; so koof and nick (GORGEOUS vis tech.) take her off the field and try to shut her up. After rehearsal when rob says apos;okay so if you guys could send me a hit-list of thing you want to work on we can figure out what to work on the next few weeks.apos; i said apos;the only thing on my hit-list is victoria.apos; he said if it ever happens again hell jump off the tower and punch her in the mouth. Which is comforting.
i changed the alto soloistapos;s mouthpiece on thursday-WHAT A DIFFERENCE last week we had a reed player as a music judge (a once-in-a-blue-moon occurrance.) who complained about her sound. She used to play on a really narrow metal one so i switched her to a B-5: more free-blowing and darker but still has good projection. Next i plan on changing the tenor and bari mouthpieces which will prove much more difficult because belskis has basically nothing to choose from. So i think ill borrow a few from height to try out and then get belskis to order them. I just hope i can make a difference quickly.
yesterday was pretty fun-we all went to applebees after we played to listen to tapes. I didnt exactly like how everyone except goosh and i had beers. (im only 20 and goosh is only a fresman at rowan.) and when i say beers i mean 23s. Not bottles. Im definitely NOT comfortable with that. All the same though it was a good time.
im hungry. Ill write about overbrook and pitman later.
exhilarator nelson, exhilaratory, exhile.
